Just watched the first episode, and here’s my review:
Positives: The show has a cool vibe with a little bit of comedy and romantic moments, all wrapped up in under 30 minutes. The cast is good.
Negatives: The story feels unrealistic, like the writers just created characters thinking, yeah, this will look funny, let’s do that. Every character seems to be given jokes so that whenever they talk, they try to say something funny. Even when Joanne (Kristen Bell) entered the room where the other lead, Noah, was, he immediately looked at her like the lead actress is here, now let’s bond and make an instant connection. Joanne was confused about how a handsome, flirty guy with a short beard could be a rabbi, so she asked multiple times. Then, suddenly, they’re in love and obsessed with each other. There are 9 more episodes-couldn’t the writers have waited and added some romantic tension?
Overall, it’s not bad or boring, but after reading some good reviews and loving Kristen Bell in The Good Place, I was expecting more. Based on the first episode, it’s below average for me as I didn’t find it binge-worthy or that interesting or funny. I’ll still watch the second episode and hope it improves.
